Activity setup
This activity is designed to be performed at night, with participants blindfolded as they navigate through the forest.
Objective: The group’s goal is to find a bell hanging from a tree and ring it, starting from a designated point in the forest.
Part I – Preparation (20 minutes)
- The facilitator selects and agrees on a starting point with the group.
- A bell is hung about 50 meters away at shoulder height on a tree branch.
- The group has 20 minutes to strategize how they will navigate from the starting point to the bell.
- This phase allows for different group strategies, revealing leadership dynamics, teamwork, and potential conflicts.
Part II – Execution
- After preparation time, the group gathers at the starting point, blindfolded, and begins searching for the bell.
- The leader ensures safety, preventing participants from falling, hitting trees, or entering water.
- The group follows their planned strategy, and there is no time limit unless otherwise agreed.
- If needed, the leader may allow limited assistance, such as removing blindfolds briefly or returning to the starting point.
- Once the group finds and rings the bell, the task is complete.
Materials needed
- Blindfolds (one per participant)
- Bell (to be hung on a tree)
Reflection
After the activity, the group discusses their experience, drawing parallels to real-life teamwork, challenges, and problem-solving.
